Daily Quest Guide: Fishing Dailies

Each day a new Fishing daily is available from a NPC in the city of Dalaran. Unfortunately, most of these quests involve some travel time which might be enough to convince some players not to bother. Well, I’m hear to today to explain these quests and persuade you to give them a chance because the rewards and monetary gains you can earn from these simple dailies is worth the time and effort required to complete them.

The Ghostfish
This quest takes place in the Sholazar Basin which, if you have the right flight paths, is a relatively short flight from Dalaran. You want to fly directly into River’s Heart if you can. Right next to the flight path, on days when this is the Fishing quest, you will find dozens of people fishing into the water. The quest item, the Phantom Ghostfish, can sometimes take awhile to catch but when you do it’s simply a matter of using the item by eating it. It’ll give you an invisibility effect that wears off eventually (you can speed up the process by right-clicking on the buff icon in the corner of your screen). Once the effect is gone, you can fly back to Dalaran and turn in the quest.

The Best Selling Fish

The Best Selling FishThis post originally appeared in my newsletter. Subscribe now to get these Auction House tips before they are published on the blog.

Fishing. In the World of Warcraft, the act of fishing was apparently designed to be the most miserable and sadistic act in a video game ever. It’s horrifyingly boring and monotonous. How anyone could derive enjoyment from this act is simply beyond the scope of my brain’s mental capacity.

My Auction House Schedule

This post originally appeared in my newsletter. Subscribe now to get these Auction House tips before they are published on the blog.

I’m taking a quick break this week from the series on working the Auction House with one starting gold. Instead I thought I’d write a bit about my schedule, broken down by day, for how I grind, loot and list things for sale. On my server, and I suspect on many others, there is a selling pattern on the Auction House from day-to-day that you need to be aware of to maximize your returns.

Forty Thousand

40,000 GoldThis post is entirely of a bragging nature but I just wanted to announce that I finally crossed the 40,000 gold threshold. This total is across all of the characters on my account as of 6 o’clock this evening.

I had come close to 40,000 gold a few weeks back but then I went on a buying binge of gear for my priest and found myself hovering around 36,000 gold when it was all said and done with. A little bit of Fishing and smart Auction House work found me back to within striking distance of my goal. After running the Argent Tournament dailies today on two of my characters I broke the 40,000 gold mark by one.

Fishing Inside Wintergrasp

Fishing Inside WintergraspI’ve marked on this map of Wintergrasp my favorite fishing locations not only in the zone, but in the entire game right now. The red area on the map represents the best location to fish for the Horde while the blue area represents the best spot for the Alliance. I’ve chosen these spots in particular because they’re both easy to access and offer limited opportunity to run into a PvP fight in the middle of your fishing.

I like these locations so much because, while there aren’t any fish specific pools here, the random fish you manage to catch are great for Cooking and, ultimately for me, selling on the Auction House.

Farming Spot: Dragonfin Angelfish

Farming Spot: Dragonfin AngelfishI’m a recent Fishing convert. It’s a “profession” I mocked openly and harshly since I began playing this game oh so long ago. But now my attitude has changed.

In the last few weeks I feel as if I reached what, as far as I’m concerned, is the maximum I can accomplish on my Hunter without being in a Raiding guild. Since I don’t have much desire or inclination to join a real guild I’m trying to find other things to keep my Hunter active and, to that end, I took up Fishing.

My Mission Is More Fishin’

FishingI’m taking another swing at the Fishing profession. I’ve always felt a sense of shame and embarrassment over the fact that, as long as I’ve been playing this game, my fishing skill has never been at the maximum level. I just could not bring myself to sit down for any serious length of time and work on it.

Well, it’s time to put my Mastercraft Kalu’ak Fishing Pole to use and get fishing up to 450. When I started this the other night my skill was under 365. After some fishing in the Barrens for Deviate Fish I hit 385 and made my way to Northrend. By the time I hung up my fishing pole this evening I was up to 392.
