I managed to get the patch yesterday on my Mac with little difficulty so I was able to jump right in as soon as Greymane was up and check things out. Here are my impressions of Patch 3.2 after a few hours of play.

Champion’s Seal Loot

There’s some decent loot to be purchased with Champion’s Seals now. I immediately blew most of my stockpile of 300 Seals by buying the fantastic Sunreaver Dragonhawk mount (pictured above), the Argent Crusader’s Tabard for quick teleporting to the Tournament area and last, but not least, the Bind on Account Polished Breastplate of Valor to complete my BoA Plate set.

New Argent Tournament Dailies

The new Argent Tournament Dailies, which I believe you need the Crusader title to do, are relatively simple. They all involve a bit of travel but it didn’t seem as awful as the original four Champion dailies feel with the exception of one daily that is all the way in Storm Peaks and might not be worth the effort for some.

The amount of Seals and gold you can earn by consistently doing these quests is going to be pretty impressive. They don’t appear to require groups either so those of you, like myself, with an allergy to playing with strangers should be pleased.

Isle of Conquest

I tried the new battleground, the Isle of Conquest, a few times but I want to hold off my impressions for awhile. It was insanely laggy and the map is so huge, with so much going on, that it was hard to get a good grip on what it will really be like in the future. I think once Patch Mania simmers down and we all have a time to figure this battleground out it’s going to be one of my favorites though.

Trial of the Champion

I managed to give the new 5 man, Trial of the Champion (or ToC as the cool kids call it), a shot on both Regular and Heroic. We didn’t quite have the heals to live through the Heroic version and we quit after several wipes on the second encounter. The Regular version, minus one “Oops” wipe, was much smoother and gave me a good look at what this new 5 man has to offer.

Some people are going to white hot hate the opening fight that requires jousting. But it’s relatively simple and compares well with the Battle Before The Citadel quest. The next two encounters reminded me heavily of Violet Hold. Actually, the whole Trial of the Champion is kind of like Violet Hold on acid. It’s just small trash and then boss time. If you like Violet Hold’s gameplay then you’ll probably love ToC as well.

Emblem Changes

The switch from Emblems of Heroism to Emblems of Conquest in Heroics is great. Now I can gear up a bit without having to bite the bullet and join a raiding guild. Also, this should make interest in my small stable of alts increase as the odds of getting them in good gear just drastically rose with the Emblem change.

Early Verdict

I have to say that even after just a few hours that I like this patch a lot so far. The new battleground, while confusing at first and very laggy, shows some promise as well. The Emblem changes, new dailies and the new 5 man should help keep my interest in the game going strong.

I don’t know about all of you but I am officially, as of today, sick and tired of the Argent Tournament. At this point I’ve Championed the major cities on two of my characters and just started the whole process over again on my Level 79 Death Knight. I’m ready for the Valiant quests now but I just can’t go on. What originally was an effort for some cheap experience points to hit Level 80 has turned into a mental burden.

My Hunter has 300 Champion’s Seals and my Priest has 100 of his own. What in the world am I going to do with all of those? I don’t like any of the mounts and I don’t need any of the gear so we’re down to vanity pets (of which I have more than enough) and tabards and banners. I say “No thanks” to those two items as well.

So starting today I’m going to put down my lance and taking a break from the Argent Tournament dailies. I’m going to switch gears with my playing time away from dailies and make the last push on my Death Knight to ding 80.

The Poll

It’s time for a show of hands. I’m interested to see how many readers of this blog are still actively participating in the Argent Tournament dailies. Or, if this applies to you, never even started with them to begin with.

The Midsummer Fire Festival is a great way to earn some fast gold for your level 80 characters or quickly get experience for your lower level toons. Unfortunately, two of the dailies that come with this in-game holiday require some above average eye-hand coordination. Those quests, More Torch Tossing and More Torch Catching, can both be completed in a minute or two with the right technique.

Since I’m a Horde player the above video shows me completing these quests in the Spirit Rise section of Thunder Bluff. In addition to the video tutorial, here are some notes for each quest:

More Torch Tossing

Before you accept the quest, make sure you have the quest item located on an easy to reach key on your toolbar. I have a secondary row in my interface devoted solely to obnoxious daily quest items so I can quickly hit a button and activate an item.

The key to More Torch Tossing is all in your starting position. Try to place yourself in between the fire (so you can light the torches) and the center target.

It’s also helpful to have your camera as far back and up as your computer can handle. I prefer to keep it at about a 45 degree angle as well.

After each successful toss, quickly position your cursor back over the center target and activate the item. Then when the next target is lit up you can just click near it and re-center your cursor as you wait for the next one.

If you happen to miss a target, or are late in clicking on one, take a second and let the next target pass without an attempt. This will get you back in sync with the rhythm and save you from constantly falling a second behind on each throw.

More Torch Catching

I usually go right from Tossing and straight into More Torch Catching but you can take a break to reconfigure your camera and/or graphical settings if you need to.

It’s important to make sure you have your graphical settings high enough to see shadows on the ground. As you can see from the video, the secret to this quest is to keep moving along with the torch’s shadow. If you run from shadow to shadow, and not torch to torch, you can finish this quest easily.

It’s also best if you can keep the camera high and directly above your character. This makes it easier to judge where the torch is going to ultimately end up.

As soon as the catch is made, turn your character around 180 degrees so you’re facing in the right direction to run after the next throw.

Lastly, no matter how much you want to, don’t look at the counter to see how many more catches you have to make. Taking your eye of the shadow will most certainly make you miss and have to start all over again.

If you’ve been playing Wrath for awhile I’d imagine you’re familiar with the two warring factions in the Sholazar Basin, the Oracles and the Frenzyheart Tribe, so I’ll spare you the setup to getting these dailies. The short version is that this is the Wrath version of the Burning Crusade’s Scyers versus the Aldor struggle; but in the jungle and not on some weird planet in deep space.

Most people, at first glance, quickly and correctly join the Oracles and do their dailies and ignore the Frenzyheart Tribe entirely. Well, in the interest of players like myself that are trying to complete the Honorary Frenzyheart, Frenzyheart Tribe and Mercenary of Sholazar achievements I thought I’d put together this daily quest guide.

The Frenzyheart Tribe quests are broken down in the same way as the Oracles dailies: 500 Reputation and 700 Reputation. Two of the dailies will be for 500 Reputation and the last, which you turn in at Shaman Jakjek in Kartak’s Hold, will be for 700 Reputation.

The 500 Reputation Quests

These quests are quick and simple. One of these quests will randomly rotate each day and the other, Chicken Party, is the same each day. The only reason for you not to complete them is laziness. The quests that involve killing a mob don’t require you to kill many things and, if you get lucky with a fast drop, you can complete them in a matter of minutes.

Chicken Party!
This quest is offered every day. The area surrounding the quest giver is quite literally overrun by runaway chickens. It’s just a matter of having the eye-hand coordination necessary to click on them before they get away from you. It can be really, really frustrating for people who don’t have the dexterity or the patience to complete but with practice and patience it gets better each day.

Rejek: First Blood
The Sapphire Hive Wasp and Hardknuckle Charger required to die for this quest are within walking distance of the quest giver. The Mistwhisper mobs can be found across the Basin near the Glimmering Pillar. Just make sure that after you kill each mob you use the quest item on them. It’s a pain to think you’ve finished the quest, travel back across the Basin for the turn in, and realize you forgot to use the item on one of the dead mobs.

The Heartblood’s Strength
This quest requires a flying mount. After you’ve killed the Goretalon Matriarch and collected her blood you need to fly to the Suntouched Pillar and use the quest item. By combining those two items you will have completed the quest. When you take the composite of those two items back to the quest giver you’re all done. This is your typical “travel around and collect stuff” quest that the makers of WoW love so much.

Strength of the Tempest
The mobs you have to kill can be found on the far western edge of Sholazar Basin in the area behind the Maker’s Perch. The drop rate on these can be a bit frustrating at times and there are other quests in this zone that overlap in the area so competition can be high depending on the time of day you try to complete the quest. When you’ve acquired three of each item you need, the shrine is a few steps away. You’ll recognize it from all the lightning bolts hitting the ground around it. If you stand next to the shrine for a few months you’ll complete the quest.

A Hero’s Headgear
This one takes place in the exact same location as the Strength of the Tempest quest I described above. All you have to do is find a Stormwatcher, take him out and blow up the corpse. Once you loot the blown up corpse you’ll get the item you need to complete the quest. This is my favorite of all the Frenzyheart Tribe quests because it’s the quickest, easiest and least likely to drive me bored to tears.

The 700 Reputation Quests

All three of these quests have similar goals. In each, you visit the area surrounding the Mosslight Pillar and kill members of the Oracles. If you’re well-geared you can rip through these quests pretty quickly so the only real slowdown is the fact that you have to travel away from the Frenzyheart Tribe’s small village in order to complete them.

Tools of War
This quest involves collecting three traps in Kartak’s Hold, which you can find across the way from the Mosslight Pillar, and then traveling across the jungle a bit to the Oracles camp. There you’ll find tons and tons of the Gorlocs that you need to kill. If you have decent gear you can ignore the traps and just kill the Gorlocs on your own. The time it takes to fiddle around with the traps tends to make this quest take much longer than it should.

Kartak’s Rampage
This is another straight-forward type of quest. You have to kill Gorlocs until one drops the Oracle Blood. Then you travel back to the Altar in Kartak’s Hold (near Shaman Jakjek) and get your weird monkey mount. Then it’s just a matter of using the monkey’s skills and attacks to kill all the Oracles you need to complete the quest. I find this one just as annoying as the similar quest for the Oracles. Once again, you might be better off just taking these guys out on your own in the interest of time.

Secret Strength of the Frenzyheart
The last of the 700 Reputation quests is just like the previous two. To start this one off, you have to visit the Nesingwary Basecamp and find Grimbooze Thunderbrew. He gives you some ale that you then take down to Kartak’s Hold. Once you reach Kartak’s Hold you use the berries you were given (not the ale from Grimbooze) to combine the two quest items together you are then ready to go… kill more Gorlocs!

The Rewards

The #1 reward for hitting Exalted with the Frenzyheart Tribe is the self-satisfaction of a job well done. The items you can get from the Oracles at Exalted are much higher in quality (and this is why the majority of players go with the Oracles over the Frenzyheart). There is one cool item that the Frenzyheart can give you, the Frenzyheart Brew, that turns you into a Wolvar for five minutes. That’s pretty cool.

Conclusion

Other than that, there isn’t much incentive to bother with these dailies unless you’re interested in Achievement points. By going for the Frenzyheart Tribe Reputation you’re going to throw away any and all Reputation you’ve built up with the Oracles to that point. So buyer beware if you want to undertake this path.

The new Argent Tournament dailies offer ample opportunity for both gold making and reputation earning. Most of the quests are very run of the mill but a few of them, including Among The Champions, involves new vehicle combat mechanics that might be difficult for some players. I’ve put together this short guide, and video, to help anyone who is struggling with the new jousting gameplay.

My Technique

On that note, the video above will show you how I complete this quest as quickly and simply as possible. I have a simple attack rotation that works like this:

Use Defend (#4) and stack it three times before starting the fight.

Get some distance on your opponent and open with Shield-Breaker (#2) and repeat until the opponent’s shield is gone.

Immediately launch into a Charge (#3) and as soon as it lands hit them with Thrust (#1).

After Thrust (#1) lands, turn away from the opponent and hit Defend (#4) again.

When the cooldown is over, hit Shield-Breaker (#2) once more.

Go back to the third step and repeat.

If you do this in that order, and without making any mistakes, you should be able to beat the Champion opponent and still have around 30% of your own health left in the end.

You can read my take on this change if you’re interested.

There seems to be a growing interest in Wintergrasp and its dailies lately. Now that a few of them have had their annoying kinks worked out I thought it was time to put together a nice and concise guide for all of the dailies in the zone.

There are a handful of dailies available in the zone each day. You can get them from your factions NPCs in the zone. If your side is in control, you can find the NPCs inside the Keep. If your side isn’t in control, you can find them at your faction’s spawning point (the western side for the Horde, and the eastern side for the Alliance).

I’ve broken the dailies down into two groups: Gathering Quests and Battle Quests. The gathering quests can easily be completed when there is no battle ongoing. The battle quests require the zone fight to be in progress to complete.

Gathering Quests

There is one randomly chosen gathering-style quest in Wintergrasp each day. Each one requires you to travel to a specific area in the zone, fight a certain type of revenant and return with a set number of an item they drop. Along the way you’ll pick up a nice share of Crystallized <Insert Element Here> items that you can use later or sell on the Auction House.

You can only finish these dailies easily when the fight inside the zone isn’t happening. The elements and revenants you need to kill only spawn when there is no fight underway. Also, I typically avoid doing these dailies when my faction doesn’t have control of the zone but, depending on the particular quest for that day, you might be able to get away with completing it regardless of who is in control.

Bones and Arrows (Horde) / Bones and Arrows (Alliance)
On the western edge of the map, just south of the Horde spawn point, is a huge area running all along the side of Wintergrasp with Shadow Revenants that drop the Quivers of Dragonbone Arrows you need to complete this quest. Opposing players you kill in this area will drop the Quivers as well but your best bet is to get over here quickly, get your ten Quivers from the mobs and get out. This quest favors the Horde slightly because it is right next to their spawn point.

Fueling the Demolishers (Horde) / Fueling the Demolishers (Alliance)
To complete this daily you’ll need to head to the far southeastern corner of Wintergrasp to the area on your map that looks like a smoldering volcano. The Eternal Embers you need drop from the mobs in the area. If your faction doesn’t control Wintergrasp when you’re attempting to do this daily I suggest you either move fast or hold off to avoid confrontation with opposing players. This is a hotly contested area. This is my favorite of the gathering dailies because of the sheer amount of Crystallized Fire you can get killing the Flame Revenants and elementals in this area.

Jinxing the Walls (Horde) / Warding the Warriors (Alliance)
This is probably the easiest of the gathering dailies. The water elementals can be found in the large lake encompassing the middle of Wintergrap (hence the name, Lake Wintergrasp, I suppose). If you stick to the water area around your factions spawn point you can have the Armor pickup you need to complete this quest in no time.

Healing with Roses (Horde) / A Rare Herb (Alliance)
In the far southwestern corner of Wintergrasp, in a area of your map colored in green, is the location of the elementals you need to kill to gather the ten Herb Pouches you need. If you kill any players of the opposing faction in this area they drop the Pouches as well. I find this daily to be nearly impossible to complete when my faction doesn’t control Wintergrasp. The area you’re fighting in is so remote and tightly spaced that being outnumbered by other players is likely.

Battle Quests

The battle quests, with one exception, can only be completed while the fight for Wintergrasp is ongoing. This means that if you wish to complete these every day you’ll need to time your play around when the next battle in the zone is going to occur. Luckily, by simply checking the world map in-game you can now see a timer that counts down to the next battle on your server. I would say that you could complete all of these battle dailies during one fight as long as the battle lasts more than 15 minutes.

Slay them all! (Horde) / No Mercy for the Merciless (Alliance)
This quest used to required twenty kills of opposing players but that number has been dropped all the way down to ten with the release of the 3.1 patch. In addition, this quest can now be completed at any time because killing opposing faction NPCs now credits you with a kill. If you have this daily and a Wintergrasp battle is ongoing you should be able to complete this quest with absolutely no effort. Simply join a raid in the zone and you’ll have it finished in minutes. If you’re in Wintergrap without a battle happening you can finish this one by simply traveling up and down the roads in the zone and killing NPCs.

Defend the Siege (Horde) / Defend the Siege (Alliance)
When your side is on offense these dailies become available to you. There is another daily, that I’ll describe next, that is for when your side of on defense. You can only accept one of these per day and it’s dictated by who controls the zone when you visit the quest giver. To complete this particular daily, you have to either be in or near a vehicle as it takes down a structure of the keep. If you find yourself near a huddle of vehicles attacking and taking down a wall you can wrap this daily up in seconds.

Stop the Siege (Horde) / Stop the Siege (Alliance)
This is the counterpart to the Defend the Siege quests. On defense it’s relatively easy to track down opposing players in vehicles. If you do enough damage to one and it is destroyed you’ll get credit for the kill. Do that three times before the fight is over and you’ll have this daily all wrapped up. This one is easier, to me, than the previous one because it’s based on your side being on offense. In a defensive situation, you might find yourself spread out on the map and not always near the other faction’s vehicles.

Toppling the Towers (Horde) / Southern Sabotage (Alliance)
In the southern half of Wintergrasp are three towers controlled by the faction on offense. To complete this daily you must be around one of those towers as they are destroyed. This can be easily accomplished if your faction is organized enough to control the southern workshops. Then it is just a short drive to a tower to blow it up with your vehicles. Unfortunately, on my server, the Horde isn’t quite that put together yet so I usually get stuck with this in my quest log for days on end.

Victory in Wintergrasp (Horde) / Victory in Wintergrasp (Alliance)
All you have you have to do is win a battle for Wintergrap. It’s that simple. Well, it’s that simple depending on how good the rest of the players on your faction are. I like this daily the least of them all because it relies the most on other people.

The Rewards

The gathering and battle quests in Wintergrasp each give you just over 13 gold at level 80 and three Stone Keeper’s Shards. Even though there’s only one gathering quest a day you can still get some nice loot doing those as well. In addition, the amount of Honor a person can round up every day in Wintergrasp is crazy. If you add it all up I think it’s worth getting into a Wintergrasp battle at least once a day if you can find the time.

To the north of the Venture Bay area of Grizzly Hills is a second PvP setting called the Blue Sky Logging Grounds. There are four daily quests here for each faction, just like Venture Bay, and the experience and gold rewards are similar as well. So you’ll stand to make just over 20,000 experience and just under 6 gold per quest. The main difference is that the Blue Sky Logging Grounds dailies do not offer any Venture Coins.

Accepting any of these quests will flag you as PvP so be on the lookout for members of the opposing faction looking to ruin your fun. I’ve found that this area is much more likely to be crawling with PvP players than Venture Bay.

The Quests

Kick ‘Em While They’re Down (Alliance) / Keep ‘Em on Their Heels (Horde)
This quest require that you kill 15 enemies of the opposing faction. As you would expect, if you’ve been in Venture Bay, both NPCs and actual players count towards this total. This quest can easily be completed while you’re in the middle of finishing the others in this area. The NPCs aren’t difficult to defeat as they only attack when provoked.

Life or Death (Alliance) / Overwhelmed! (Horde)
Scattered throughout the Blue Sky Logging Grounds are injured members of both factions. The opposing members are the ones you must kill for the quest above. The ones on your side are the NPCs you have to heal with the quest item you are given. This quest is only difficult to complete if their are opposing players ruining the supply of injured NPCs by killing them outright.

Pieces Parts (Alliance) / Making Repairs (Horde)
For this quest you must run around and pick up three items: 4 Grooved Cogs, 3 Notched Sprockets and 2 High Tension Springs. I always found the springs to be the toughest of the three to find but, again, as you’re working on completing all four of these quests you’ll manage to gather up what you need. If there are other members of your faction in the area trying to work on these quests as well you might run into a little trouble collecting all the parts though so I recommend trying to wrap this one up quickly if you’re all alone before someone else comes along.

Shredder Repair (Alliance) / Shred the Alliance (Horde)
This is my least favorite of the four Blue Sky Logging Grounds quests. The shredder moves very, very slowly but it does have a special skill that gives it a short burst of speed. Unfortunately, the cooldown is so long on this ability that by the time you’ll be ready to use it again you’ll almost be at the turn-in point to drop of the shredder anyway. This is another quest that is made even more difficult when there are opposing players in the area. While the shredder has some offense skills to fight back at players the health is so low that it’s tough to survive an attack. Try and wrap this quest up as quickly as possible just to get it out of the way.

The Rewards

Anyone questing in the Grizzly Hills, or looking for an easy way to level, should be hitting these quests up every day that they can. While the gold reward is minimal the amount of experience you can pull down for completing all four quests is quite nice considering the little amount of time you’ll have to invest. There is also reputation to be won for your main faction: the Valiance Expedition or the Warsong Offensive.

After awhile you can experience a little burnout on these quests but I strongly recommend you gut it out for as long as you can.

In the southwestern corner of the Grizzly Hills is a cool little harbor area called Venture Bay with a number of PvP-style daily quests. I recommend everyone tries these out, at least once, for the sole purpose of seeing another misfire by Blizzard at world PvP. This area is rarely populated by players and is more or less a PvE environment with a PvP flag associated with it.

As a means of quickly leveling your character, these quests are a great way to rack up easy experience every day in a matter of minutes. On top of the 20,000 experience you get for each quest you’ll also receive just under 6 gold and 10 Venture Coins (more on those later).

It’s important to keep in mind that as soon as you accept one of these quests you become flagged for PvP. Now typically this isn’t an issue since this area, on my server at least, is generally devoid of any real life. But from time to time you’ll run into actual players so it’s important to remember to keep your guard up.

The Quests

Keep Them at Bay! (Alliance) / Keep Them at Bay (Horde)
This quest can easily be done while you’re completing the rest on the list. Venture Bay is crawling with NPCs of each faction so you can quite easily kill the requisite ten you need without any problem. You also get credit for any players you kill in this area while on the quest.

Smoke ‘Em Out (Alliance) / Smoke ‘Em Out (Horde)
There are Venture Company workers scattered throughout all of Venture Bay but the easiest way to wrap up this quest quickly is to find a building with them inside and rush in. Run around grabbing threat on all of them and try to corral them into one big group. When that’s done take the Smoke Bomb and throw it down at your feet. You might have to repeat this process two or three times to finish the quest so make sure you’re at full health each time to avoid dying.

Down With Captain Zorna! (Alliance) / Crush Captain Brightwater! (Horde)
There are three ships in the harbor at Venture Bay. The ship on the far left, when facing the lighthouse, contains the Alliance captain and the ship on the far right has the captain for the Horde. All you have to do is get on that ship and kill the opposing faction’s captain. These captains are elites, with 30,000 health, and there’s sometimes a patrolling mob or two in the area you’ll have to deal with as well. I’ve found that during this quest is when you are most likely to get jumped by any enemies in the area. It’s easy to lose track of your surroundings when trying to down the elite and that’s a prime opportunity for some wise-ass rogue to backstab you and make life miserable.

Riding the Red Rocket (Alliance) / Riding the Red Rocket (Horde)
This is, without a doubt, my least favorite of the Venture Bay quests. I did this one maybe two or three times before swearing it off for good. You can only complete this quest when your faction controls the lighthouse. To control the lighthouse, you must fight your way to it and capture a flag in a style similar to the PvP quest in Hellfire Peninsula where you had to capture the three flags in the zone for a faction-wide buff.

Once you’re in control, you have to work your way into the middle ship in the harbor and get fuel to take back to the small dock behind the lighthouse. When you have the fuel it’s got a movement and damage debuff that makes you walk like a snail all the way back to the lighthouse. Then, when you put the fuel in the rocket, you have to steer it into the opposing factions lumber boat. It’s all very brutal to do. Here’s a YouTube video I found to better explain:

The Rewards

Ah yes, the loot. There are 19 items you can buy with your Venture Coins and most of them, at least for my Hunter, were either stopgap upgrades that lasted a brief time or were totally useless. I think I have over 300 coins sitting uselessly in my Currency tab right now. The vendor for these coins is only available to you when your faction controls the lighthouse.

The real point of doing these dailies is the experience. With a level range of 73 or 74 anyone in a hurry to get to 80 should probably make at least three of these four quests a regular stop. They’re quick to finish and, if you’re into PvP, occasionally a good time when other players are in the area with you.

The brutal reality about Reputation grinding with the Wyrmrest Accord is that the only good way to do it is with the Championing system. There are three rather lousy dailies you can do, each for 250 Reputation, if you’re looking to supplement the Reputation you’ll be getting from running Heroics.

Two of those dailies, Drake Hunt and Defending Wyrmrest Temple, are pretty easy and don’t require much of a walkthrough. The third, Aces High!, is a bit more difficult so I thought I’d write a bit about it and include a video of my technique.

My Technique

There are several popular methods to finishing this quest but I find that I have the best luck going with a brute strength approach. I go after each of the five drakes like that fight is going to be my last so I don’t worry about healing myself during combat.

I open up each fight by stacking the HoT up to its maximum of five. When that’s done I get my target’s attention with one or two hits of the #1 button. As soon as he’s close enough to attack me I pop the shield (#5 button). Now it’s simply a race to keep that shield up as much as possible and take the drake out before I’m dead. As you can see in the video, I pound the #5 button as soon as its cooldown is over and I have enough mana to cast it.

As long as you keep spamming the #1 button and pop #5 when it’s available you should be able to take down a drake with no problem. When the fight is over, fly to a safe place and heal up with the HoT. When you’re fully healed you want to stack the HoT to five and repeat the process again.

All of the daily quests for the Kalu’ak are pretty easy but one of them, The Way to His Heart…, can be a little time consuming. Most players spend a long time swimming around trying to trap the right amount of fish to lure the seal across the bay.

There’s a shortcut to this quest that helped me a lot when I was grinding Reputation so I thought I’d make a short video (posted above) to show you my technique. Using my trick you only need a single fish to complete the quest.

The basic idea is to attack the seal and then kite it over to the shore. Once it’s within range, you toss it one fish and then lead it the rest of the distance. I manage to finish this quest in under two minutes this way.

Hunter Tip: Make sure your pet is on passive before trying the method I use in the video. As you can imagine, it’s pretty easy to kill the seal before it makes it to the shore and having your pet munching on it the entire time won’t help matters.

Your first encounter with this faction will probably be in Zul’Drak but their daily quests are actually all located in two separate areas in Icecrown.

Those two areas, The Shadow Vault and Death’s Rise, each contain three unique daily quests that I’ll go into further detail now.

The Shadow Vault Quests

The three dailies at the Shadow Vault are, in my opinion, the easiest of the six available quests for the Knights of the Ebon Blade. If I was going to pick one of the two groups to do each day during your grind for Reputation I would certainly pick these.

Shoot ‘Em Up
This is the most frustrating of the three quests from the Shadow Vault so I thought I’d tackle it first. This quest takes place on a small platform in Jotunheim (at coordinates 32, 24) that contains a row of harpoon guns. The goal is to shoot down 20 of the Proto-Drakes as they fly by you. My favorite technique for this quest is to wait patiently for one to fly by you on a low path and spam the fire button until it drops. In the upcoming 3.0.8 patch, the number you need to defeat is being lowered to 15 which should make this sometimes frustrating quest much easier.

Leave Our Mark
The goal of this quest, to plant 15 banners into the bodies of dead vrykul is incredibly easy. The trick to this quest is to understand that you don’t have to personally kill the mob in order to plant a banner in it. Since the area this quest takes place in, Jotunheim, is always crawling with other players you should be able to make short work of this quest. If you’re running short on Vykrul, make sure you check out the area around 36, 23 for a constant supply of Vyrkul to kill.

Vile Like Fire!
This quest is usually the last of the three I finish because it’s the simplest and shortest. The Proto-Drake you need to complete this one is located not far from the area with the harpoon guns from the first daily on this list. After you mount one of the stabled Proto-Drakes it’s simply a matter of flying around the small town and attacking the buildings you see. This quest should, quite literally, take you less than two minutes to complete.

Death’s Rise Quests

In all honesty, I hardly ever do these quests. I find them to be pretty obnoxious, annoying and difficult when compared to the three softballs you get from the Shadow Vault.

From Their Corpses, Rise!
For all of these quests, I find it best to stay as far away from the chapel in the center of the Scarlet Onslaught’s island as possible. It means these quests will take you longer but the level of difficulty rises the closer you get to the center. The best place to find mobs to kill for this one are around the docks and the small rocks near the water. Those areas are also best for this next quest…

No Fly Zone
The Bone Gryphon you get as a flying mount for this quest has some neat abilities. I usually open up with the Plague Strike then bombard them with Frost Breath. I only use the Bone Armor ability when I’m taking on more than one of the Scarlet Onslaught’s Gryphon Riders at a time. This one also just takes patience and awareness of your surroundings as you try and take down all ten Riders.

Intelligence Gathering
Scattered throughout the island are chests, always guarded by one or two members of the Scarlet Onslaught, that have a depressingly sad chance of dropping one of the five quest items you need to complete this daily. As you progress from chest to chest, you’ll quickly wrap up the first quest on this list for Death’s Rise. The small drop rate on this one makes it pretty brutal and if your luck is bad, and you find yourself getting closer and closer to the chapel in search of chests, you might run into trouble.

The Rewards

These quests are excellent sources of gold and Reputation with the Knights of the Ebon Blade. Each of them gives 250 Reputation and just over 13 gold at Level 80. That means on any given day you can complete all six of these dailies for 1,500 Reputation and about 80 gold.

The Knights of the Ebon Blade Quartermaster, Duchess Mynx, can be found inside the Shadow Vault. She has tons of great items and gear and practically every class will find at least one thing that makes the grind for Reputation worthwhile. Of particular note are the Head enchantments that open up at Revered status. Everyone will probably want those.

The long quest chain, culminating in the ethically interesting A Hero’s Burden, is probably one of the best series of quests in the game so far.

Once you’ve made your choice in that quest and decided to go with the Oracles, a series of daily quests opens up for you at the Rainspeaker Canopy area of Sholazar Basin. While there are technically eight dailies for the Oracles in total, only three of them will be available to you each day. The three are randomly chosen and it is possible for certain quests to appear on consecutive days. This makes completing the Savior of the Oracles achievement slightly annoying.

The quests are broken down into two categories based on the reputation they give: two of the three random dailies will be for 500 Reputation and can be turned in at Rainspeaker Canopy. The third daily will be for 700 Reputation and can be turned in to Lightning Caller Soo-met at the base of the Mosslight Pillar.

The 500 Reputation Quests

The quests for 500 Reputation are the the easiest of the two types of Oracle dailies. They typically don’t require much in the way of time or effort and with a flying mount can be completed in minutes. They don’t all require a flying mount but I don’t recommend anyone starts this Reputation grind without one.

Appeasing the Great Rain Stone
This is the simplest of all eight dailies for the Oracles. You are given a quest item that summons a companion that you must lead around the area of Rainspeaker Canopy. As you move, keep an eye out for white flashes on the ground and as you walk over them your companion will dig in the area and reveal the quest item. Find six of the items and you’re done. Occasionally, the companion will dig up random creatures and not a quest item but that’s fairly uncommon.

Song of Reflection
This is another amazingly easy quest. All you have to do is simply fly to the tops of each of the four pillar and play the Didgeridoo of Contemplation. I typically start with the Glimmering Pillar first as it is the only one of the four that has enemies on it. After you’ve finished that one, it’s a breeze to fly from pillar-to-pillar to complete this quest.

A Cleansing Song
This quest, which involves flying to three points surround Rainspeaker Canopy, is incredibly self-explanatory but there is one point I’d like to mention. As of right now, all three of the monsters you summon for this quest can be tamed by a Hunter. When you tame the beast it is considered a Crocolisk but obviously with a very unique look. If anyone was curious why they were seeing people running around with oozes and three-headed hydras for pets this quest is the reason why. I have yet to see anything official from Blizzard about if, or when, this will be fixed.

Song of Fecundity
This is one of two 500 Reputation quests that takes place on the Stormwright’s Shelf in western Sholazar Basin. It’s a short flight from Rainspeaker Canopy and when you arrive you’ll instantly see the piles of Soaked Fertile Dirt all over the place. Simply approach one and play the Horn of Fecundity you received from the quest giver. It shouldn’t take more than a few minutes if there aren’t many other players to compete with.

Song of Wind and Water
The other quest at Stormwright’s Shelf is by far my least favorite of the 500 Reputation quests. You start by using the Tempest Drums on the first Monsoon Revenant or Storm Revenant you see. After that you “become” the mob that you attacked. You then have to go find an opposite type mob and take it’s health down low enough to the point where you can then “become” it. When you’ve switched you then go on to the next mob that is opposite of what you’re currently possessing and repeat. You have to do this four times for each of the two types of Revenants. During high population times, this quest is troublesome to complete.

The 700 Reputation Quests

All three of these quests have similar overall objectives. In each of them, you must end up traveling to the area around the Mosslight Pillar and kill a certain number of the Frenzyheart Tribe. These quests are probably some of the more time consuming and challenging dailies the Oracles provide.

Mastery of the Crystals
At the base of the Mosslight Pillar, in the Oracle village of Sparktouched Haven, is a chest containing three crystals: one that creates a lightning storm, one that turns the ground into ice, and the other that emits a beam of energy. Once you’ve collected the three crystals, simple leave the village and head southwest to the Frenzyheart Tribe’s area. By using the lightning and energy beam crystals consecutively over and over you can easily take down 50 of the Wolvar you need to complete the quest. One thing to note is that if the crystal does 100% of the damage on a Wolvar you won’t be able to loot it.

Will of the Titans
I find this to be the most frustrating of the 700 Reputation quests because of the game mechanic involved. You start by killing a random Wolvar near Sparktouched Haven. It should drop the Tainted Crystal quest item that you can then activate inside the village. Doing so turns you Soo-holu, which is some kind of term for “Hard to Control Vehicle Mount” more or less. You then run over to the Frenzyheart Tribe village and try your best to kill 50 of the Wolvar. The problem is that the controls of Soo-holu are, to be blunt, garbage like most quests in Wrath that use the vehicle controls. My strategy is to just run into a pack of Wolvar and spam all of the attack buttons until everything is dead.

Power of the Great Ones
To charge the Dormant Polished Crystal you receive at the start of this quest you have to fly to the Lifeblood Pillar far to the east of Rainspeaker Canopy. After that you can then head to Sparktouched Haven, at the foot of the Mosslight Pillar, to power the crystal and start the quest. After that it’s simply a matter of finding 30 Wolvar and taking them down. Of the three 700 Reputation dailies, this one is by far the quickest and easiest.

The Rewards

The Oracles have at least three Reputation Rewards, sold by Geen at Rainspeaker Canopy, that make this grind more than worth the effort, especially for Hunters. The first two come at Revered and they are the Toothslice Helm and the Mysterious Egg.

The helm is a great head piece for Hunters up to and through Heroic runs I feel. It’s probably one of the ugliest helmets they’ve ever made though so be prepared to either look very stupid or turn your display of helmets off in your Interface options.

The Mysterious Egg is an item that, after a 7 day cooldown, can give you either one of four companion pets, the ultra-rare Green Proto-Drake mount or the nearly useless Aged Yolk. This egg is probably one of the more unique items in Wrath.

The final quality item, available at Exalted, is the Oracle Talisman of Ablution. This is a great fill-in trinket for Hunters looking to boost their crit rating before taking the plunge and buying the Mirror of Truth.

Conclusion

With the possibility of earning 1,700 Reputation each day the grind for Revered with the Oracles isn’t much of a challenge. In all honestly, most players might want to just stop at Revered but for the completists out there the leap to Exalted isn’t as difficult as other factions like the Wyrmrest Accord or the Argent Crusade.

A lot of visitors are finding this site by searching on Google for a map of Everfrost Chip coordinates for the quest Remember Everfrost!. I touched on this quest a bit in my Sons of Hodir quest guide but I failed to include a map.

Posted above you’ll see my own personal map I made by charting out the coordinates for each area I consistently found the Everfrost Chips in. Here are the exact coordinates shown on the map:

56.72 63.46
56.44 66.36
70.06 54.36
55.34 64.20
56.29 63.56
72.32 64.43
57.82 59.02
69.67 63.11
70.26 55.99
57.96 63.21

If you add those coordinates to a macro you should be able to make a map similar to mine. At that point it’s just a matter of luck and time to find the chips you need. A lot of people swear they find the most inside the confines of Dun Niffelem but I personally never had any luck there. I had the greatest success looking around the area near the Hibernal Cavern.

Hopefully this map proves helpful to some of you. The Sons of Hodir grind is getting tougher and tougher as more people are reach the level cap and working on their various reputations.

As far as reputation grinds go, the Sons of Hodir certainly appears at first glance as one of the toughest in the game. They don’t have a tabard so you can’t get easy reputation running Heroics. This means you have to get to Exalted the old-fashioned way by running daily quests. Fortunately, with a little dedication, it doesn’t take much to get to the finish line.

You can’t get to the daily quests for the Sons of Hodir without going through a pretty long quest chain that starts with the quest They Took Our Men! Once you have the chain done, the daily quests open up for you and you can be on your way.

The First Daily Quests

There are six total quests available for this faction but only four are available at the start of your grind. Three of those four are dailies and the fourth is a repeatable quest you can do over and over.

Hot and Cold – 250 Reputation
This is the first of two daily quests that I find to be a bit of a struggle. The reason isn’t because the mobs are difficult but because during peak hours they’re just hard to get. You can find them right outside of the eastern gate at Dun Niffelem. After getting 5 Essences of Ice, you have to travel a bit south of Frostfield Lake to finish the quest. Again, this part is a bit of a race to get everything done before other players do.

Blowing Hodir’s Horn – 250 Reputation
This quest is the second one that I find to be a bit of trouble for the same reason as Hot and Cold. There’s just a lot of competition during peak hours to kill the two types of mobs required for this quest. I find it best to get the five Niffelem Forefathers first because they’re rarer than the Restless Frostborn. Be prepared to spend a few minutes flying around the area northeast of Frostfield Lake to finish this quest.

Polishing the Helm – 250 Reputation
This is probably the easiest and quickest of all of the dailies for the Sons of Hodir. The Hibernal Cavern, to the west of Dun Niffelem, is full of the Viscous Oils you need for this quest and they’re on a fast respawn timer. This one shouldn’t be a problem.

Remember Everfrost! – 350 Reputation
This quest, repeatable as many times as you can, is without a doubt the most difficult part of the reputation grind. The Everfrost Chips you need are on long spawn timers and are very rare. The Wowhead page for the chips has plenty of coordinates and maps to help you find these, but the reality is that you don’t really need these to grind your way to Exalted but they will certainly speed up the process for you.

Update: I’ve added a map of Everfrost Chip coordinates for those of you having trouble finding them.

Daily Quests at Honored

Once you hit Honored, two more daily quests open up for you. One is a typical mob killing experience but the other is one of those most unique daily quests in the game so far.

Spy Hunter – 350 Reputation
Just outside of the Hibernal Cavern you will find the Corpse of the Fallen Worg you need to start this quest. You have to follow the Ethereal Frostworg around the area three times to complete the quest. Aside from some encounters with area mobs, this quest is very straight forward and shouldn’t take you much time at all.

Thrusting Hodir’s Spear – 500 Reputation
This is, hands down, one of my favorite dailies I’ve ever seen in WoW. It starts by throwing the given spear into one of the Wild Wyrms flying over the western gate of Dun Niffelem. Once you’ve speared one of the Wyrms, it will fly down to you and you’ll jump on to it as it flies away. The key to completing this quest is to make sure you hit the Doge (#2 button) whenever the warning appears on the screen, then continue to hit Grip (#1 button) as you use the big attack (#4 button) after its cooldown is over. When the Wyrm throws you into it’s mouth, as long as you have over 10,000 health you should be able to hit the #1 button around 15 times which should be enough to finish the quest with the #3 button then.

The Daily Quest at Revered

At Revered, one more daily quest opens up. At this point, you’ll have six dailies available for a total of 1,850 reputation every day. If you manage to find a few Everfrost Chips you should be able to go from Revered to Exalted in about 11 days.

Feeding Arngrim – 250 Reputation
This quest is best done while you’re completing Spy Hunter as the worms you’re looking for are all over that area. As a hunter, make sure you place your pet on passive otherwise you’ll have a hard time finishing this one. There’s a problem with the pet drawing threat away from the worm that causes you not to get credit. Other than that, this is also a very simple daily.

The Rewards

There are a lot of really good rewards for sticking this grind out. As a hunter, the Giant Ring Belt will probably last you a very long time until you find something better in a Heroic drop and it’s available right at Honored. There are also two quality shoulder enchantments: Lesser Inscription of the Axe at Honored and Greater Inscription of the Axe at Exalted.

Aside from gear and enchants, there are two nice mounts available as well. The Reins of the Ice Mammoth is available at Revered. It’s a single-user mount. At Exalted, you can get the Reins of the Grand Ice Mammoth which is a three-user mount. I’d argue that these mounts alone make this rather long, but entirely possible, reputation grind more than worth the trouble.
