The Emalon Wipe Fest Continues

Emalon the Storm WatcherI went on at least a six week hiatus from any attempts at running the Vault of Archavon because every time I joined a PUG to give it a shot the opening attempt at taking down Emalon was ugly. Actually, in the interest of honesty, calling it ugly doesn’t do it justice. It was like a brutal crime scene after each attempt with the bodies of his victims strewn all over the place.

I had hoped, all those weeks ago, that taking a break from the instance would allow other people on the server to gear up a bit and increase the likelihood for success. This Friday afternoon I decided it was time to try the Vault again and joined a PUG looking for a few more people to handle the DPS.

I’m Falling Behind

NaxxramasI’m not much of a Raider (as anyone who has checked my PUG Checker profile can obviously attest to). I’ve never done a full clear of Naxxramas, have never seen the inside of the Eye of Eternity and haven’t even flown around the entrance to Ulduar yet. So with the announcement of the Raid content in Patch 3.2 I’m beginning to get the distinct sensation that I’m falling behind.

Tips For Emalon PUGs

Emalon the Storm WatcherI was in three different Raid groups that wiped twelve times on Emalon this week before I was finally in a group that took him down this morning on my thirteenth attempt. I thought I’d expand a bit on my previous thoughts on Emalon by offering a few suggestions for Raid leaders in charge of PUGs during this portion of the Vault of Archavon.

Emalon the Storm Watcher

Emalon the Storm WatcherI finally got a chance to check out the new wing inside the Vault of Archavon late last week. For those of you that don’t know or haven’t had a chance to try to take out the newest boss, named Emalon the Storm Watcher, I thought I’d write up some of my thoughts.

PUG Checker

PUG CheckerAs some of you may already know, I’ve been working off and on over the last week or so on a new WoW-related site I’m calling PUG Checker.

With PUG Checker, you can type in the name of a player and the server they are on and get a quick “scorecard” style display of their boss kills in all of the instances in Wrath of the Lich King. This is a quick and simple way to get some kind of an idea about the experience level of the player you’re about to group up with.

Fun Inside The Vault Of Archavon

Vault of Archavon DPS MetersIt’s probably pathetic to admit that the Vault of Archavon is my favorite Raid. I like it a lot for several reasons: it’s an easy Raid to join and get involved with, it’s directly tied to Wintergrasp which I enjoy a lot and it’s one of the few events where I seem to consistently top the DPS charts.

My First 25 Man Naxx PUG

NaxxramasBefore I even get started describing my first 25 Man Naxxramas PUG I want to make it perfectly clear that what you are about to read is a horror story. This was a total disaster on every level and I know, I know that I should be in a guild if I want to seriously see this kind of content. Now getting that out of the way I can move on to the play-by-play of this PUG super disaster.

On Monday night there are usually players, who haven’t gotten into their weekly Raids yet, scrambling to form PUGs. This is generally when, at best, I hop into a 10 or 25 Man Obsidian Sanctum run but for some reason this time I went looking for some Naxx action. What a mistake.

Visiting The Obsidian Sanctum

The Obsidian SanctumUp until last week I had never really tried a real Raid instance before with the exception of the Vault of Archavon, which I’ve cleared half a dozen times in 10 and 25-man versions. In order to rectify this glaring omission on my WoW resume, before going on vacation, I hopped into a 10-man Obsidian Sanctum PUG to see what all of the fuss was about.

This particular PUG had a hard time getting its last few members so the pre-Raid chatter was 15 minutes of inane bickering between two tanks about armor mitigation and defense cap ratings and other things that make me sleepy. In between arguments, the Raid leader kept asking for everyone to post their DPS on the channel for either public humiliation or ego boosting. I decided to not partake in either.
