Daily Quest Guide: The Sons of Hodir
As far as reputation grinds go, the Sons of Hodir certainly appears at first glance as one of the toughest in the game. They don’t have a tabard so you can’t get easy reputation running Heroics. This means you have to get to Exalted the old-fashioned way by running daily quests. Fortunately, with a little dedication, it doesn’t take much to get to the finish line.
You can’t get to the daily quests for the Sons of Hodir without going through a pretty long quest chain that starts with the quest They Took Our Men! Once you have the chain done, the daily quests open up for you and you can be on your way.
The First Daily Quests
There are six total quests available for this faction but only four are available at the start of your grind. Three of those four are dailies and the fourth is a repeatable quest you can do over and over.
Hot and Cold – 250 Reputation
This is the first of two daily quests that I find to be a bit of a struggle. The reason isn’t because the mobs are difficult but because during peak hours they’re just hard to get. You can find them right outside of the eastern gate at Dun Niffelem. After getting 5 Essences of Ice, you have to travel a bit south of Frostfield Lake to finish the quest. Again, this part is a bit of a race to get everything done before other players do.
Blowing Hodir’s Horn – 250 Reputation
This quest is the second one that I find to be a bit of trouble for the same reason as Hot and Cold. There’s just a lot of competition during peak hours to kill the two types of mobs required for this quest. I find it best to get the five Niffelem Forefathers first because they’re rarer than the Restless Frostborn. Be prepared to spend a few minutes flying around the area northeast of Frostfield Lake to finish this quest.
Polishing the Helm – 250 Reputation
This is probably the easiest and quickest of all of the dailies for the Sons of Hodir. The Hibernal Cavern, to the west of Dun Niffelem, is full of the Viscous Oils you need for this quest and they’re on a fast respawn timer. This one shouldn’t be a problem.
Remember Everfrost! – 350 Reputation
This quest, repeatable as many times as you can, is without a doubt the most difficult part of the reputation grind. The Everfrost Chips you need are on long spawn timers and are very rare. The Wowhead page for the chips has plenty of coordinates and maps to help you find these, but the reality is that you don’t really need these to grind your way to Exalted but they will certainly speed up the process for you.
Update: I’ve added a map of Everfrost Chip coordinates for those of you having trouble finding them.
Daily Quests at Honored
Once you hit Honored, two more daily quests open up for you. One is a typical mob killing experience but the other is one of those most unique daily quests in the game so far.
Spy Hunter – 350 Reputation
Just outside of the Hibernal Cavern you will find the Corpse of the Fallen Worg you need to start this quest. You have to follow the Ethereal Frostworg around the area three times to complete the quest. Aside from some encounters with area mobs, this quest is very straight forward and shouldn’t take you much time at all.
Thrusting Hodir’s Spear – 500 Reputation
This is, hands down, one of my favorite dailies I’ve ever seen in WoW. It starts by throwing the given spear into one of the Wild Wyrms flying over the western gate of Dun Niffelem. Once you’ve speared one of the Wyrms, it will fly down to you and you’ll jump on to it as it flies away. The key to completing this quest is to make sure you hit the Doge (#2 button) whenever the warning appears on the screen, then continue to hit Grip (#1 button) as you use the big attack (#4 button) after its cooldown is over. When the Wyrm throws you into it’s mouth, as long as you have over 10,000 health you should be able to hit the #1 button around 15 times which should be enough to finish the quest with the #3 button then.
The Daily Quest at Revered
At Revered, one more daily quest opens up. At this point, you’ll have six dailies available for a total of 1,850 reputation every day. If you manage to find a few Everfrost Chips you should be able to go from Revered to Exalted in about 11 days.
Feeding Arngrim – 250 Reputation
This quest is best done while you’re completing Spy Hunter as the worms you’re looking for are all over that area. As a hunter, make sure you place your pet on passive otherwise you’ll have a hard time finishing this one. There’s a problem with the pet drawing threat away from the worm that causes you not to get credit. Other than that, this is also a very simple daily.
The Rewards
There are a lot of really good rewards for sticking this grind out. As a hunter, the Giant Ring Belt will probably last you a very long time until you find something better in a Heroic drop and it’s available right at Honored. There are also two quality shoulder enchantments: Lesser Inscription of the Axe at Honored and Greater Inscription of the Axe at Exalted.
Aside from gear and enchants, there are two nice mounts available as well. The Reins of the Ice Mammoth is available at Revered. It’s a single-user mount. At Exalted, you can get the Reins of the Grand Ice Mammoth which is a three-user mount. I’d argue that these mounts alone make this rather long, but entirely possible, reputation grind more than worth the trouble.
