My Mission Is More Fishin’

FishingI’m taking another swing at the Fishing profession. I’ve always felt a sense of shame and embarrassment over the fact that, as long as I’ve been playing this game, my fishing skill has never been at the maximum level. I just could not bring myself to sit down for any serious length of time and work on it.

Well, it’s time to put my Mastercraft Kalu’ak Fishing Pole to use and get fishing up to 450. When I started this the other night my skill was under 365. After some fishing in the Barrens for Deviate Fish I hit 385 and made my way to Northrend. By the time I hung up my fishing pole this evening I was up to 392.

Before I called it quits I did some research and decided I should start doing the Burning Crusade fishing dailies again for extra Sharpened Fish Hooks and just maybe I’d get lucky after a few weeks and the fishing hat would drop.

A quick portal to Shattrath and I was on my way to completing The One That Got Away. I had this done in short order and when I opened up the quest rewards I was lucky enough to snag the Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat on my first try. I wish I had that kind of luck with that awful Mysterious Egg and its “Seven Day Timer of Disappointment.”

So why the sudden interest in fishing? Gold, of course. There’s always a crazy market for Raid food and, with 3.1 rapidly approaching, I’m counting on that demand to increase dramatically after the patch is released. I figure I might as well be at the front of this growing need for Cooking materials.

Hear, Hear! I’ve been thinking the same damn thing. There are great gains to fishing and it’s actually pretty darn relaxing when you get down to it. Let us know you do in AH with your catch!

I had leveled my fishing about on par with leveling on my priest so I didn’t have to do any huge unnecessarily long periods of fishing. I think. Maybe I did, but I blocked it out.

However, your reminder that 3.1 will bring a huge raid food demand is something that I really ought to pay attention too – more gold in my purse is never a bad thing.

“I just could not bring myself to sit down for any serious length of time and work on it.”

This is the thing, if you just sit down for 5 minutes fishing before you log off each day you play you won’t need to end up spending hours at a time fishing.

When levelling I decided that I would not leave a questing zone until I had reached the appropriate level to fish in the next zone. So you’re going up by small increments. If you do a little bit each day, it’s not much a chore.

@WoWDruid: I picked up two stacks of Musselback Sculpin in under 30 minutes of fishing and each stack sold overnight for 50g.

If you run out of Sharpened Fish Hooks, don’t forget the Aquadynamic Fish Attractor. Engineers make ‘em, and some vendors sell ‘em cheap. That way, you don’t have to do the Outlands fishing dailies unless you’re really dying to fish up the World’s Largest Mudfish and the Monstrous Felblood Snapper over and over and over again.

I leveled up my fishing on my Hunter by parking him in front of the fountain in Dalaran and completing that achievement. By the time I was done with the achievement, my fishing was capped.

I just hit 450 a few hours ago by fishing in Dragonflight. I’m going to write a Farming Spot post about it in a day or so.
