Sixty Thousand And My Retirement

Sixty ThousandThis morning I crossed the 60,000 gold mark thanks to some nice overnight Auction House activity. It’s been exactly two weeks since I hit 50,000 gold and once again I earned the 10,000 gold the old-fashioned way: dailies and key Auction House items.

Gold From The Burning Crusade

Storming Wind-RipperThis post originally appeared in my newsletter. Subscribe now to get these Auction House tips before they are published on the blog.

Most players have given up and moved on from the older content since the release of Wrath of the Lich King. What those players probably don’t realize is that the Burning Crusade still has some opportunities for anyone looking to make some gold. Outland has several items that I’ll go over in this week’s newsletter that are easy to obtain and sell well.

Selling Your Cooldowns

I see a lot of people on the Trade channel asking to buy cooldowns for Titansteel Bars, Moonshroud and the other Tailoring cloths all the time now. For those that don’t know, “selling” a cooldown basically means another player gives you the materials to make an item and then gives you a small tip for your trouble. The going rate on my server seems to be anywhere from 10 to 25 gold for a variety of different cooldowns.

The amount of gold you’re throwing away buy selling a cooldown is pretty crazy. I can sell Titansteel Bars and all three varieties of Tailoring cloth for between 75 and 100 gold depending on the market. It seems silly to throw that opportunity out the window for a cheap 25 gold. Even I you don’t have the materials on hand, a quick run to the Auction House to buy them can probably result in a profit larger than your tip would be for giving up your cooldown.

Reins Of The Bronze Doh…

Reins Of The Brone DrakeI ran Heroic Culling of Stratholme for the second time ever the other day. Tthe idea of trying the timed run was tossed out as we were all getting ready to head inside. I had never made an attempt at that before, and no one was particularly serious or gunning for it, but a few minutes into the actual run it was pretty clear we at least had an outside shot of completing it. We stepped up our efforts a bit and with decent DPS and excellent tanking and heals we did very well.

With about two minutes to go on the timer we sprinted to the end just in time to take on and take out the Infinite Corruptor for the Culling of Time achievement and the chance to roll on the Reins of the Bronze Drake. The resulting Need roll by everyone in the group is posted above. As you can tell, it was a heartbreaker for yours truly.

Infinite Potential With Infinite Dust

Infinite DustThis post originally appeared in my newsletter. Subscribe now to get these Auction House tips before they are published on the blog.

Infinite Dust is usually the biggest mover on any given server. It’s always in constant demand thanks to its use as a requirement in over 60 different crafted items and enchantments in Wrath. With an average buyout price hovering around 5 gold per dust there’s some money to be made if you know how to go about getting your own Infinite Dust on the cheap.

Fifty Thousand

Fifty ThousandWell, it took me much longer to go from 40,000 gold to 50,000 gold than I originally anticipated. The big culprit for the long delay was my quest to finish the Lil’ Game Hunter achievement. Every time I would get a few thousand over forty I would spend it on a new expensive pet I didn’t have. I have no idea how much I dropped in total on all of the pets I needed to finally complete that achievement but it was easily over 10,000 gold.

I made a big push in the last few days to get the final 1,500 gold or so I needed to break 50,000. The Midsummer Fire Festival across two level 80 characters really helped get me over the top. I basically fire hopped from town to town on each character while I waited for my usual Auction House items to sell.

Daily Quest Guide: Midsummer Fire Festival

The Midsummer Fire Festival is a great way to earn some fast gold for your level 80 characters or quickly get experience for your lower level toons. Unfortunately, two of the dailies that come with this in-game holiday require some above average eye-hand coordination. Those quests, More Torch Tossing and More Torch Catching, can both be completed in a minute or two with the right technique.

Since I’m a Horde player the above video shows me completing these quests in the Spirit Rise section of Thunder Bluff. In addition to the video tutorial, here are some notes for each quest:
