The Emalon Wipe Fest Continues
I went on at least a six week hiatus from any attempts at running the Vault of Archavon because every time I joined a PUG to give it a shot the opening attempt at taking down Emalon was ugly. Actually, in the interest of honesty, calling it ugly doesn’t do it justice. It was like a brutal crime scene after each attempt with the bodies of his victims strewn all over the place.
I had hoped, all those weeks ago, that taking a break from the instance would allow other people on the server to gear up a bit and increase the likelihood for success. This Friday afternoon I decided it was time to try the Vault again and joined a PUG looking for a few more people to handle the DPS.
Fifteen minutes, 2 tank deaths on trash, and one failed Emalon wipe later the group was disbanded. Unbelievable. This begs the question: Is Emalon still a problem on other servers?
The Poll
So how are things with Emalon on your own server? Is it a total disaster the majority of the time, with multiple wipes and dropped groups each week, or are things turning around and are you starting to see more successful attempts? Let me know.
Is Emalon still a wipe fest on your server?

No idea, I leave after 3 wipes.

I’ve found that the only way to get a good VoA pug run on my server (Ghostlands – EU) is to do it at 2am….
infact, the only successful 3.1 pug raids i’ve been on have happened at 2am!

Hey Nance, I’m also on Greymane, but Alliance-side. When Emalon first came out he was a wipe-fest for poorly done PUGs, especially 25man. 10man seems noticeably easier. Now even random Alliance PUGs can do 25man Emalon without much trouble. Perhaps we’ve had more practice than the horde side.

Yeah, it’s rare for me to get a fail PUG for VoA 10 or 25. The most I’ve had to deal with in about the last two months (maybe more) have been 1 or 2 wipes on Emalon before the kill.

@drew I’m sure you’re right about the practice bit. Your side totally dominates us in all things Wintergrasp. In fact, our entire Battlegroup is a terrible joke for all Horde players I think.

I give it 2 wipes then I’m gone. Its always the same they demand the achievement to get in along with 4k dps. No one ever is, granted the people that ask for the achievement are idiots, every time one of my alts hits 80 I join a voa pug and I link my achievement which is of course not completed but if you link the achievement even incomplete people never look twice. My dps usually sucks but the issue every time is people never dps the adds when its time. Even when I do complete the thing every time we all die at the end because an add explodes because no one ever switches dps.

Our server is the total opposite. The horde dominate every aspect of our PvP to the point that I had to actually come and help lowbe’s getting ganked inside of IF…
Emalon and me have not had good experiences, our server does not pug well at all. I think our guild can do it, but we always have something else going on when our main group is online and well, we hardly ever get WG at the right times.

Emalon is not the problem. PUGs are the problem. I won’t go on a raid with a PUG (I will sub in as DPS for friendly guilds, but that’s a huge difference). I see no reason to rack up repair bills for a bunch of whining pre-teen emo kids.

Oh, for sure, it is only when you get a group of people that you know are good, that you can generally go pretty smoothly with him.
Most of the time I find the problem is the dps (especially melee) decides not to down the add that is about to supernova and destroy us all!
