The Upcoming Hunter Nerf

I’m sure those of you running hunters have heard about the forthcoming nerfs to the class. It’s especially distressing to those of us, like myself, who are Beast Master spec. I thought I’d sit on the news overnight before weighing in with my opinion. If you haven’t seen the list of changes yet, WoW Insider has a post detailing the hunter nerf up you can read. Just avoid the comments, as usual, over there.

To be honest, I don’t think there’s anyone playing a hunter who didn’t feel some changes were about to be coming down the pipe. We’re just way overpowered in PvE at the moment so it seems logical that changes would be made to balance out the classes a bit. As Blizzard says, it makes more sense to nerf down one class to make everyone even than to buff everyone else up to the level of hunters.

My big problem with all of this though, aside from the fact that Blizzard had a long period of beta testing to see things were wacked out, is that there are no serious attempts being made to balance out hunters in PvP where we are clearly the bottom-rung class. I’m sure with time they’ll work on that issue as well but it seems to me that the imbalanced PvP situation is much more “unfair” to hunters than the PvE situation is unfair to other classes. I’m sure there are plenty of people who would disagree with me on that so feel free to comment if you do.

In the end, it’s important to realize that all of the proposed changes haven’t even been run through the PTR yet for testing. I’m sure a lot of the changes that have been listed aren’t in their final forms yet. And maybe there’s hope that the list will be expanded to include some more PvP improvements besides the change to Kill Shot but I’m not holding my breath.

Anyway, I better get going and clear out the quests in Icecrown before it’s too late and I’m no longer the DPS machine I once was.
